A 12.5% Goods and Services Tax is added to all goods and services within New Zealand. This tax is almost always included in the listed price; however, watch for signs within stores or on product labels that indicate that the GST will be added to the ticketed price.

While some countries permit visitors to apply for a tax rebate upon departure, this is not the case with New Zealand. All residents and visitors are entitled to pay the tax. Although, when a supplier ships merchandise out of the country to visitors� home address, they are not obliged to charge the GST. If visitors do have merchandise shipped, they should note their own country�s importing policy, as duty may have to be paid.
